10 REASONS TO GET OUT OF YOUR SHELL

Shyness may make others around you feel superior and so they may like you for it. Mild shyness can also be mistaken for humility. But all in all, shyness is an inhibiting factor and stands in the way of self-development. We’ve 10 reasons for you, but here’s one. Go to the Last Word page in SHE for the others.
Fake it until you make it! Pretend that you are confident. Our writer says people who know her would never believe she’s shy, but she takes a deep breath, fakes it – and gets away with it…sound familiar?

THE WOMEN OF WEST KINGSTON

A pensive Pauline Perez stood at the entrance of the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) in Hannah Town, west Kingston, as security forces frantically moved wounded persons to the emergency ward. The hospital, located in one of the Jamaica capitol’s most crime-ridden areas, was ground zero during a bloody confrontation between a joint military/police force and gunmen in May.

It was the first time in four days that Perez, a 51 year-old mother of four children, had left her home in nearby Denham Town, another west Kingston community that saw heavy fighting. Police said seventy-three civilians and three members of Jamaica’s armed forces died in the two-day fire fight which was sparked by the pending extradition of west Kingston enforcer and alleged drug lord, Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke. Read more about the war-torn Jamaican community as it ponders life without ‘Dudus’ in the autumn issue of SHE.

RUNWAY CHAMELEON

Glamorous, gorgeous T&T model Soowan Bramble came out on top in SHE Caribbean’s recent exclusive model search in Trinidad. This month she makes her print debut as SHE Caribbean’s newest cover girl. Soowan‘s story is amazing; she earned the spot as SHE’s cover girl even with a pretty glaring imperfection. All is revealed in an exclusive interview with Soowan in Trinidad.

THE SEDUCTION OF SCENT

The nose knows what creates the highest degree of sexual arousal in men and women. Scents can produce such strong memories or associations because of the way our brains are wired. Because scent is so powerful, it’s not surprising that how a man smells can either attract you or repulse you – and there’s a reason why. Each of us has our own “odour signature” that is based on our genetics and is part of our sweat. This article will make you squirm or squeal!

HITTING MENOPAUSE ON THE EARLY SIDE? YOU MUST READ THIS

Women who go through early menopause appear to have more than twice the risk of having a heart attack, stroke or other cardiovascular-disease event later in life than women who do not experience early menopause, a new study indicates.

Early menopause was defined as going through menopause before age 46, either naturally or surgically through removal of both ovaries. Visit page 54 for more details.

So is he in turmoil? Turn to page 66.

    THE BRAVE SHAVE

“A woman’s beauty is in her hair” – an old fashioned quote that has conditioned women and men to believe the epitome of femininity is in long flowing hair – a close shave is controversial but defines natural beauty.
