Through a world wind of emotion and a thick pensiveness from the crowd, my name was announced as Miss Barbados World 2009!!! The Plantation Garden theatre erupted with the noise of my supporters and family, whom I could faintly see, jumping up and down. Their excitement, almost like a lasso, dragged me back to the present and there I stood in complete elation.

I had always predicted my reactions at the very moment should they call my name. Well, needless to say that no amount of rehearsal could have prepared me for the emotion that crept in. I cried tears of joy! It was the beginning of a dream and certainly a turning point in my life. Being crowned Miss Barbados World 2009 has granted me the opportunity to be an official ambassador for Barbados – an island that is dynamic and progressive.

I am committed to use my title as a platform to open up world avenues to Barbadians which will encourage further development of our people and our industries. It will be my personal mandate to institutionalize the LOVE Campaign and continue to advocate on the social issues surrounding us. On my journey to Miss World 2009, my ultimate goal is to come home having left a piece of Barbados with everyone I would have encountered along the way. Barbados – 166square miles and one smile wide. It is not the size of our island but the size of our story that matters.
